The City of Gilroy Parks and Recreation Commission met on October 20, 2026. Consultants from KTUA and Pros Consulting updated the commission on the Parks and Trails Master Plan and Recreation Division Assessment. The master plan will assess park and trail assets, service levels, maintenance, and safety, and develop prioritized recommendations and a capital improvement plan. Community outreach and a statistically valid survey are underway; the consultants expect to survey about 2,000 households to obtain roughly 400 completed responses. The commission asked how it would be kept informed of the Recreation Division Assessment findings, and staff and consultants indicated that findings would be brought to the commission, with a project schedule to be shared. No consultant contract award or new spending approval was recorded at this meeting.

Staff reported that court striping and resurfacing was in the bid process, while work continued on a restroom retrofit; no bid amounts, vendors, or award decisions were provided. A proposed scoreboard for a local softball facility remains under discussion, with staff expecting to work through details with the proponents as the Little League agreement nears completion. A donated tree offer is being reviewed under the city’s donation policy and in the context of the parks master plan. The commission also reviewed a draft update to park rules, which remains under development and was not adopted.
