The Michigan City Parks & Recreation Board met on October 21, 2026. The board approved the annual GolfNow agreement after revisions to its terms, and tabled proposed 2027 golf fees, contracts, and policies for further review. Discussion included proposed fee increases, possible discounts for local golfers and cash or check payments, and lowering junior fees; a resident also urged participation in Youth on Course. The board approved the 2026 claims docket totaling $53,912.03, payroll of $99,859.50, gifts and donations including a $220 zoo donation, and credit-card charges totaling $8,999.02. Greenhouse purchases were described as fronted by the parks department and expected to be reimbursed with Community Development Block Grant funds.

Staff presented the 2026–2031 parks master-plan work, identifying priorities including historic preservation, accessibility, trails, youth recreation, and Washington Park parking and facilities. The department reported an application for a $150,000 planning grant and said completion of that work could enable a later application for up to $6 million in competitive implementation funding, with no city match. Staff also discussed a proposed food-truck agreement for facility rentals to address insurance and health-permit requirements; the transcript does not record a vote on it. A resident proposed a privately funded beach life-jacket loaner program and other safety measures. No vote or spending commitment on that proposal is recorded.
