The City of Salina Arts and Humanities Commission met on October 21, 2026. Commissioners approved the September minutes by a 6-vote motion. Staff reported that a vehicle damaged a stage panel and tent during the Smoky Hill Museum Festival, causing an estimated $2,500 in damage; the city is seeking reimbursement through the driver’s insurance, and the stage decking and tent need replacement. No purchase, contract award, or spending approval was recorded. The commission also reviewed museum collection accession and deaccession procedures, including restrictions on selling deaccessioned items and transferring them to employees or related parties.
Staff presented a preliminary community cultural plan prepared by Keen Independent Research, with five draft goals covering cultural strengths, accessibility, opportunities for artists, sector collaboration, and Salina’s regional identity and vitality. Commissioners were invited to provide feedback before the plan’s presentation to the City Commission and later refinement. Discussion of 2027 commission goals included music spaces, community programming, advocacy, and public engagement. No procurement activity was identified.
