The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors and School Board held a joint meeting on October 20, 2026, covering workforce development, school facilities, kitchen equipment, and legislative priorities. No procurement awards or related votes were reported. The boards reviewed the schools’ long-range capital needs, including roof, fire-system, HVAC, bus, gym, casework, and marquee projects, as well as urgent work at the high school sports complex—particularly track replacement, turf, tennis courts, and fieldhouse improvements. Staff discussed procurement and funding timelines but did not provide final project costs or approve contracts. Bus replacement costs have risen to more than twice the roughly $95,000 cited for earlier purchases; officials also discussed comparing bus sizes and assessing fleet leasing, without making a decision.
The workforce-development discussion considered expanding career and technical education (CTE), with Gloucester High School classrooms ranking highest among facility options considered. A spring 2027 HVAC pilot, further facility and staffing planning, and grant and industry support were identified as next steps; no expansion funding or facility choice was approved. Staff reported prior CTE grants of $38,500 and $90,000, and a newly hired shared grant writer had submitted a kitchen-equipment grant application for approximately $700,000. The county is also pursuing a school-lunch equipment grant of up to $50,000 for as many as five schools. Board members discussed creating a dedicated, consistent facilities-maintenance and replacement budget line and advancing a state funding proposal to support CTE, but took no action on either. The boards also raised potential shared-service savings and set March 16 and October 19, 2027, as proposed dates for future joint meetings.
