The Town of Fountain Hills held a community meeting on October 22, 2026, about its transition to Universal Waste Systems for trash and recycling service beginning February 1, 2027. The provider said the town issued an RFP after its Republic Services contract expired, and Universal Waste Systems was selected as the most responsive bidder. No contract vote or procurement action was taken during this informational meeting. The stated monthly rate for weekly trash and recycling is $19.98, billed quarterly and expected to be guaranteed for the first two years; twice-weekly trash service will continue for current customers at an additional charge of about $7 per month.

The provider outlined a six-week cart exchange beginning February 1, during which residents should leave their carts out on their regular collection day from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Republic carts will continue to be serviced until replacements arrive. Collection days and existing ADA/backyard service will continue. Changes include scheduling bulky-item pickups on a resident’s collection day, up to four times per year, and continued household hazardous-waste and e-waste events. Residents will need to set up payment information in Universal Waste Systems’ portal because payment details cannot be transferred between companies. The company also said it is planning to collect recycling before trash in response to local wildlife concerns.
