The Worcester School Committee met on October 22, 2026. The committee reviewed the district’s 2026 accountability and student-performance results, including declines in high-school assessment achievement, chronic absenteeism, English-language proficiency, and advanced coursework participation. Members discussed possible follow-up reporting on school accountability results and recognized four elementary schools that met or exceeded targets. Public comment also addressed assessment technology and equity in the district’s proposed school-boundary realignment.
On procurement and capital planning, no contracts, vendor selections, bids, or spending approvals were identified. During discussion of the boundary realignment (GB6-72), administrators said cost estimates had been prepared for bringing Greenale or Granite Street schools online, while transportation models were still being developed; related costs would be considered as part of the FY2028 budget. The committee also discussed access to specialized programs and school capacity. It approved an amendment to the career and technical education admissions policy concerning sibling status in the lottery, and noted that the City would not move its IT department out of Worcester Technical High School, leaving the school’s space unavailable for district use.
