The Kitsap County Park Advisory Board’s monthly meeting on September 16, 2026, included updates on park funding and projects. Staff said a contracted park impact fee study had been completed and presented to the commissioners; the current fees have not changed since 2003 and were set at 25% of the calculated rate. The study is expected to be presented to the advisory board, potentially in October, with stewardship groups invited. Two state grants are nearing final approval: $350,000 toward removing a cabin and headwall for shoreline rehabilitation, and $1.41 million toward a lighted soccer field at South Kitsap Regional Park. Both remain contingent on state program funding and approvals. Staff also reported that the Rolling Hills Golf Course operations-management RFP is advertised and closes September 18; no selection has been made. A synthetic-turf replacement at Gordon Field was completed, though no project cost or vendor was stated.

The board unanimously voted to notify the commissioners that it supports the Parks Department’s recommendation to discontinue the brush-harvest program, citing limited revenue—about $20,000—and lack of environmental benefit, along with park impacts. Other updates covered park master planning, hiring, grants, volunteer-process standardization, and community stewardship activities. No contract award or vendor selection was reported.
