The TUSD Bond Oversight Committee met on October 22, 2026, for its annual public hearing and update on Tucson Unified School District’s 2023 bond program. Staff reported approximately $110 million spent through September and about $140.2 million in outlays accounted for or expected to be expensed, and noted that the second $150 million bond issuance occurred in April. Reported work included 543 HVAC upgrades at 20 schools, domestic-water-line and sewer work, safety and security improvements, school renovations, and vehicle and technology projects. A districtwide camera and door-access project was cited at approximately $13 million. Staff identified rising labor, materials, and transportation costs, aging facilities, and potential school reconfigurations as challenges that may require changes to project timing and allocation; the existing review and governing-board approval process for bond projects will remain in place. Upcoming athletic-field work was identified for Catalina and Rincon, followed by Sahuarita and Palo Verde.

The committee approved a motion, on a roll-call vote, to recommend that the governing board purchase vehicles for a flexible student-transportation pilot. Staff proposed 20 vehicles, with the Toyota Sienna option estimated at about $970,000 compared with approximately $2.3 million for electric vehicles; staff said the 20-vehicle proposal is a pilot and would not meet all identified transportation needs. No final contract award or vendor selection was reported. A separate Chromebook/Chrome-cart proposal remained pending governing-board consideration, with a decision anticipated in November; staff noted potential price increases if approval is delayed. The next committee meeting was planned for December 1 to consider updates following board decisions on school configurations.
