The Kane County Agriculture Committee met on October 22, 2026. The committee received updates on farm assistance, conservation, and farmland protection. Staff reported that the county had accepted a $70,000 USDA grant to continue its Food and Farm Technical Assistance program, which helps farms pursue grants and other support. A separate funding opportunity has about $1.8 million available statewide, with an estimated 24 projects to be awarded; the amount available is down from roughly $3 million the previous year. Presenters also noted that the county had previously used $755,000 in ARPA funds to assist 19 farms and that its farmland-preservation program has invested more than $34 million overall, including over $13 million in federal funding. An IEPA grant will support a two-year update to the Jelkes Creek–Fox River watershed action plan. No contract awards, solicitations, or purchasing decisions were identified.

The committee discussed farmland conversion, including two properties moving to solar energy use, and the county’s ongoing easement and farm-support work. A Farm Bureau public commenter raised concerns about rising diesel and other farm input costs. The committee approved the September 17 minutes by unanimous consent and placed reports on file. USDA conservation-program deadlines and upcoming agricultural events were also announced; no procurement-related spending vote was identified.
