The City of San Luis Obispo Community Development Department’s Developer’s Roundtable met on August 20, 2026. Staff said the city is beginning to identify firms to assist with the upcoming two-year housing element process and plans to issue an RFQ for on-call environmental and fiscal consultants. The city uses prequalified consultants under existing contracts for project needs; no contract awards, dollar amounts, or procurement votes were reported. Staff also encouraged participants to follow the city’s financial planning process, which sets departmental work plans and project and program allocations. In discussion, staff agreed to carry a suggestion for reviewing parking-in-lieu fees and possible mobility-related fees into the city’s planned impact-fee study; no fee change was approved.
Other updates included the anticipated state approval and implementation timeline for Zone Zero fire-safety requirements; City Council endorsement of the city’s opportunity-zone nominations, with a public comment period still open; and early proposals for the climate action plan update, including building electrification, energy efficiency, and housing and mobility strategies. Utilities staff outlined proposed municipal-code amendments to align the cross-connection control program with state requirements. These regulatory and planning topics may affect development and project requirements, but no related spending authorization or procurement decision was made at the meeting.
