The Meridian Historic Preservation Commission’s public meeting was held October 22, 2026. GGLO landscape architect Stuart Jones presented plans for integrating local history into the Heritage Square redevelopment, including its festival street and event plaza, with later phases for a performing-arts plaza. Commissioners discussed rail and interurban history, dairy and agriculture, irrigation, historic objects, and interpretive panels, and suggested consulting local historical sources and potentially TAG. Jones said the ideas would be brought back to the project team, with a later presentation to the commission. No contract award, purchase, budget allocation, or other procurement action was identified; the discussion was conceptual and included no spending vote.

The commission also discussed the Toll Brothers development affecting a farmstead whose house has lost much of its historic integrity, and an ongoing effort to remove some thermoplastic history-walk decals. Members recommended a downtown overlay code change that would require demolition-permit applicants to meet with the commission before permits are issued; the proposal is to be reported to City Council and has not been approved. Staff reported planning for a January meeting with downtown property owners about National Register eligibility. The agenda and amended September minutes were approved, and the meeting adjourned.
