The Herricks Board of Education meeting on October 22, 2026, featured a curriculum review of instructional technology and the district’s 2026–2029 technology plan. Staff described plans to audit existing educational tools for duplication and unused services, expand K–12 computer science instruction, and train teachers on SchoolAI, which is being piloted with safeguards and initially limited to grades 3–5. The presentation also covered student screen-time data, digital citizenship, and data privacy. No new technology purchase, vendor award, or specific technology spending was approved; staff noted they are considering a costly tool to track per-user costs and screen time. The board also heard that the external audit showed a healthy balance sheet and an unmodified opinion, while the district’s budget was described as tight, with 2.7% remaining.

The board approved routine business that included acceptance of the 2025–2026 external audit and corrective action plan, consultant and special education contracts, and other agreements and facility-use items. It also approved disposal of obsolete technology equipment, middle-school high-jump mats, and televisions. During public comment, a resident requested information on the student, staffing, and budget impacts of changing the middle-school transportation distance requirement; district staff agreed to provide information on the proposal process and financial implications for a possible community vote in May.
