The DeSoto Parish Schools monthly finance meeting, held October 22, 2026 (metadata dated October 23), reviewed financial reports and property matters. Year-to-date sales tax receipts were reported at $7.52 million for July and August; the self-funded medical plan reported $3.724 million in revenue and roughly $5.351 million in costs, with claims up 13% from the prior year. Dental plan revenue was $229,000. The July–September reimbursable grant report showed $362,642 requested ($320,675 federal and $41,967 state). The board approved a motion to declare an unused 2.72-acre parcel on U.S. Highway 84 surplus and authorize its sale to Unity Fiber for $35,000 cash, with $2,500 earnest money due within 14 days and a 60-day due-diligence period. The sale is intended to support parish broadband access and return the property to productive use.

Staff reported that two bids for an upcoming project are scheduled to open November 10 at 2 p.m.; no award was made. On a school construction project’s next phase, two of three anticipated bids had been received, with the bids described as significantly under budget; staff also said local parish vendors were bidding. The Oxford Street former media center was reappraised at $432,000 and remains listed for sale; interested offers had not met the previously authorized 50%-of-appraised-value threshold, and staff planned to continue working with the realtor to pursue a sale. Operations reported September route-bus fuel costs of about $63,000 and special-education bus fuel costs near $11,000.
