Alpena County Facilities Committee meeting on October 21, 2026, covered airport operations and facility maintenance. Airport staff reported a $4,000โ$8,000 estimated cost for a damaged hydraulic tank and a $1,000 repair to a Ford pickup; pumps for the snow blower had been acquired and installed. The committee heard that airport capital-improvement projects for the next five years would be presented to the FAA on October 29, with project eligibility and funding still subject to FAA review. A replacement rotary plow and airport layout plan also remained pending FAA approval or project numbers. Courthouse painting was about halfway complete after the committeeโs contractor arrangement did not work out, and maintenance staff had taken over the remaining work. Staff also reported researching replacement AED units with lower-cost batteries and pads and a five-year warranty; no purchase approval was recorded. Staff will seek pricing for grinding and recoating fairground bathroom floors.
The committee approved a fairgrounds board request to hold a November 27โ28 fundraiser, with proceeds designated for fairgrounds improvements; responsibility for any power costs was not settled. Members discussed, but did not decide, whether to suspend dynamic campground pricing during fair week, and agreed more information was needed. A proposed lease arrangement with the fair board remained under discussion, with members raising concerns about utilities, county building use, staffing, and financial benefit; no agreement or spending action was approved. A request to consider winter snowmobile access at Long Lake Park was referred for further discussion, including potential plowing and maintenance costs.
