Stafford County Public Schools held a CIP town hall on October 22, 2026, to discuss its FY2028–FY2037 capital improvement plan. The division reported more than $35 million in cumulative savings from three recently opened schools, returned to the county to reduce debt-service costs or support other county priorities. Current projects include replacement schools scheduled to open in August 2028, Drew Middle School and Hartwood Elementary School replacements, and renovations at Stafford High School; the Stafford High School arts-wing construction contract has been awarded, but the transcript gives no vendor or contract amount. The draft CIP includes $661.6 million for replacement facilities, more than $500 million for three new schools, and $218.6 million in unfunded critical-systems projects. A proposed fleet-services facility would add 20 maintenance bays to address a joint county-and-schools fleet exceeding 1,400 vehicles.
The presentation also covered a November 3 sales-tax referendum seeking a 1% increase on select items, with proceeds dedicated to school construction and major renovations if voters and the Board of Supervisors approve it. Staff estimated the measure could generate roughly $350 million to more than $500 million over 20 years, subject to actual collections. No vote or new procurement award was recorded at the town hall; the school board’s draft CIP was scheduled for consideration and approval later, with county adoption planned for April.
