CVUSD Board Meeting 10/22/2026

At the October 22, 2026 Coachella Valley Unified School District Board meeting, the board approved several procurement and service items. It authorized the purchase of two gas buses from AG Bus Sales through Clovis Unified School District piggyback bid 2963, at $236,547.47 per bus including an optional six-year warranty; funding is 80% from the Expanded Learning Opportunity Fund and 20% from the transportation budget. The board also approved outdoor office and classroom furniture under bid 2217, an agreement with Pupil Transportation Information LLC, an agreement with Riverside County Public Social Services, and participation in Project Tomorrow’s PRISM virtual-reality efficacy study. A consent-calendar item concerning outside medical-billing support was approved after discussion; public commenters cited a cost of $60 per hour for one position, totaling $84,000, and questioned outsourcing and oversight. The vote was approved by a majority, with Vice President Garcia and Trustee Akuna opposed. The agenda also included a clerical correction describing payment to MCCI LLC for digitizing student cumulative records for the special education department.

Public comments raised concerns about district spending, staffing, labor relations, and transparency, including requests for audits and questions about vendor agreements. Trustees discussed responsible AI education and a possible future agenda item, but no AI procurement decision was made. The board also took action on a stipulated expulsion recommendation in closed session; no procurement action was associated with that matter.
