At its October 22, 2026 meeting, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Fayette County School District and City of Fayetteville to share the $92,000 cost of consulting services auditing personal-property returns, particularly valuations for hyperscale data centers. Each entity will pay one-third. The Board also approved bid 27015-A, awarding Benning Construction the Fire Station 7 remodel for $69,081.86 and transferring $9,081.86 from the Fire Station 6 remodel capital project. The Board authorized staff to use design-build delivery for transportation projects, citing potential time and cost savings on smaller projects; use is capped at 50% of the prior year’s awards, and projects will still return to the Board for approval. A one-time commissioner compensation increase was approved over one dissenting vote; the discussion referenced an estimated 2.5% increase, but exact dollar amounts were not provided.
The Board also approved resolutions seeking legislative action on oversight of private water systems, authority to pursue a local homestead-option sales tax (which would still require legislative approval and a voter referendum), and staggered terms for the Board of Elections and Magistrate Court; the related items were approved for forwarding to the legislature as a package. Staff reported project updates, including a delay to the Crosstown generator project until May 2027 due to switchgear delivery, continued work on the Justice Center build-out, and progress on the animal shelter and other county facilities. A resident raised school traffic and campus safety concerns, including officer coverage and out-of-service crossing lights; no Board action on those concerns was reported.
