The Allegan County Board of Commissioners met on October 22, 2026. The board approved the 2026 tax levy apportionment report by roll-call vote and approved its consent agenda as amended, including adding a public hearing to close out an LG grant for a future meeting. No new major contract award or bid approval was identified, but administrators reviewed ongoing capital spending and purchasing activity. The 401 Public Improvement Fund had an approved appropriation of about $5.4 million, with just over $3 million spent and slightly more than $1 million contractually committed. A $250,000 parks allocation funded completed dock, roof, and pavement work; contracts were approved for Westside stairs and playground repairs. About $34,000 remains for Little John boardwalk repairs, which will be rebid in late winter. The broadband project’s original $18.6 million appropriation resulted in a final contract of $18.34 million, with savings helping fund park Wi-Fi. The medical care community building renovation is listed at $12 million, with $1 million in bond funds already spent.
The board also heard updates on a combined dispatch and law-enforcement radio replacement: $200,000 is included in the 2027 budget for dispatch, with another $925,000 appropriated, though full project funding was not yet allocated; payments are expected to be staged rather than entirely upfront. The dispatch server replacement was reported complete, the county phone-system upgrade is moving into a pilot transition, and an HVAC engineering consultant is assessing systems for future projects. The OnPoint presentation reported a 2027 behavioral-health budget of about $50 million and discussed uncertainty in future state and federal grant funding. The board also approved amended bylaws for the Commission on Aging and 911 Policy Committee, adopted an ADA policy, and approved its 2027 meeting calendar.
