The City of Iowa City Council held a work session on October 20, 2026. Council discussed downtown poster kiosks after concerns about flyers being posted on other public infrastructure. Staff said the remaining kiosks are expected to stay in service until they reach the end of their useful life, while related streetscape work is currently anticipated in year five of the Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Council supported exploring options with the Downtown District and potentially the University of Iowa, including possible locations, designs, costs, and cost-sharing, and asked that options be brought back for consideration. No contract awards or spending votes were recorded.

Council also agreed to schedule an affordable-housing funding discussion for the second November work session. Staff was asked to prepare updated information on available funding and tools—including budget resources, the Local Option Sales Tax allocation, city-owned land, and options such as a reserve or CIP line item—to inform that discussion. Other topics included the board and commission appointment process, a student government update, and the status of a state investigation; no additional procurement activity was identified.
