🏗️ Construction & Infrastructure 🚚 Transportation Physical Infrastructure Grants & Funding

The 30th annual State of the Region, hosted by the Hilton Head Island and Bluffton Chamber of Commerce and presented by BCTV on October 20, 2026, brought together regional business and government leaders. Discussion focused on growth management, transportation, and workforce needs, including affordable and workforce housing. Leaders described public-private housing partnerships and land acquisition for conservation and community uses, but no contract awards, procurement approvals, or spending motions were reported at the event.

Transportation funding and projects were prominent. Speakers cited Jasper County’s 2024 sales tax referendum, expected to provide $376 million for road improvements and $94 million for land conservation; planned work includes widening portions of Highway 278 and improvements to John Smith Road and Argent Boulevard. A developer contribution of $8 million and anticipated additional federal funding of $12 million for each of two projects were also mentioned. Leaders urged support for a proposed Beaufort County sales tax referendum and discussed regional transit options, including bus and ferry services. These were updates and policy priorities, not votes taken at the meeting.
