At its October 20, 2026 meeting, the Trail Creek Town Council approved payment of a Schneider invoice related to the Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) application, using Local Road and Street funds. The town attorney said the fund already had a budgeted $30,000 contractual-services line, so no transfer was needed. The street department also reported that it had secured a Morton Salt contract for the 2026–27 winter season; no contract amount was stated. The department said its CCMG request had been submitted to the state and was awaiting confirmation of approval.
Cool Spring Fire Department presented its proposed next two-year service contract, which would begin after the current contract expires December 31. The proposal includes an increase in the second year, but the council tabled a funding decision while officials clarify contract terms and provide a redline for review ahead of November. The department cited rising operating and maintenance costs, increasing call volume, and aging apparatus; it estimated that replacing its largest engine would cost $1.5 million and said it is considering setting aside funds for future replacement. Separately, a Michigan City Area Schools representative discussed a school referendum and an announced $185 million capital-building plan, but the council took no action on those school-related proposals.
