The Brockton School Security, Safety and Transportation Subcommittee met on October 20, 2026. Transportation Director Kamal Peterson reported that the district serves about 7,600 students across Brockton Public Schools and other schools, including about 1,700 students in special education. An invitation for bids (IFB) for private transportation is planned for October 26. The procurement would cover 77 routes, grouped in sets of five, and require vendors to meet specified qualifications and provide items including GPS tracking and identification vests. The presentation also described plans for random and school-site inspections of private vehicles, with unsafe vehicles removed from service; no contract award or bid approval occurred at this meeting.

The department reported that three eight-passenger vehicles had been acquired and were expected to be operating by the end of October, with two more expected by the end of November. The district anticipates these vehicles could reduce private-transportation costs by at least about $1,750 per day. Seven vehicles were out of service, and staff discussed repair costs, vehicle mileage and the possibility of comparing future replacement options; no purchase decision was made. Members also asked for fuel-cost and fleet-status information, discussed driver training, radio coverage, student scanning and transportation-system integration. A motion to remove agenda item three and place it on the 7:00 School Committee meeting agenda passed unanimously.
