At the October 26, 2026, Clayton County Board of Education work session, staff reported that the arena concessions RFP had been released and was in the evaluation process. The proposed model uses one prime operator responsible for concession vendors, with the RFP calling for Clayton County businesses and restaurants and including small, minority- and women-owned business participation requirements; one stand is reserved for the district’s culinary arts program. Staff also reported a finalized agreement with Momentus for the arena’s customer relationship management system, pending execution and training. A roughly $400,000 nursing-services purchase for medically fragile students was discussed in the purchasing report. These procurement items were informational; no related award or spending vote was taken. The board also discussed the need for additional information and oversight regarding arena contracting.
Capital and facilities updates included $280 million borrowed under the 2024 bond at 4.24% and $495 million under the 2025 bond at 5.13%, with approximately $300 million remaining for committed projects. Staff is considering removing the golf-course scope from the North Clayton High School project and bringing forward a deductive change order, described as approximately $9 million and later as roughly $10 million in potential savings. Given enrollment trends and infrastructure needs, staff said future capital recommendations would prioritize roofs and HVAC; HVAC projects at Terre Elementary and Sequoia Middle are planned for summer 2027. An HVAC control-system item was expected to come before the board for approval, but no vote on it was recorded at this work session.
