The City of Murfreesboro Historic Zoning Commission met on October 20, 2026. It approved the August 18 meeting minutes and acted on several applications for 443 East College Street: the commission approved changing previously authorized LP SmartBoard siding to cement-fiberboard siding, approved a proposed garage subject to obtaining the required building permit and meeting zoning bulk standards, and approved a new fence. These were property-review decisions; no contracts, purchasing, or public spending were identified.
For 520 East Main Street, the commission approved leaving the house without shutters and voted to deny replacement of its existing wood windows, which are to remain; the applicant may still address the storm windows separately. The commission also reviewed proposed amendments to its historic-district guidelines and rules of procedure, including provisions on conflicts of interest, application materials, economic-hardship claims and administrative approvals for like-for-like work. These were presented for discussion and future consideration, not adopted at this meeting; the stated process requires a vote at a subsequent meeting and, if approved, City Council review.
