At the October 21, 2026, Amador County Unified School District board meeting, trustees considered a school-consolidation project after extensive public comment both opposing and supporting it. Speakers raised unresolved questions about transportation and traffic safety, enrollment and capacity, facility conversion costs, special education, school safety, and whether the environmental review should be revised or recirculated. The board discussed the district’s transportation study and a projected 11-mile-per-student VMT increase, along with projected consolidation savings of about $2.5–$2.6 million, approximately $875,000 in one-time costs, and a net estimate of roughly $1.7 million before the one-time costs fall away. The superintendent said savings would be considered for facilities and other priorities, and supported reporting projected versus actual savings annually.
On a motion and second, the board approved a resolution adopting the initial study and mitigated negative declaration and mitigation monitoring and reporting program, approving the consolidation project, and directing the filing of a notice of determination; the recorded discussion indicates a 4–1 vote, with one trustee opposed. The district said a separate traffic-safety study had already been approved. Related spending discussed included six minivans expected in January, four 10-passenger vans expected in December, and kitchen equipment previously purchased for affected campuses; a catering trailer was also discussed as a potential way to ease food-service lines. No vendor selections, contract awards, or bid approvals were identified.
