Athens Planning Commission - October 21, 2026

The City of Athens Planning Commission met on October 21, 2026. Members unanimously approved the September 16 meeting minutes and unanimously approved a resolution correcting an omitted variance related to the previously approved Title 21 planned unit development on Hudson Avenue, part of the Welcome Ohio program. The variance addresses eight properties without direct frontage on a platted city street; access is planned through existing or proposed alleys and easements. No procurement activity was identified.

The Commission also discussed, but took no action on, a proposed minor lot split at 52 Lorraine. Staff raised concerns that two existing foundations intended as accessory structures could leave the resulting lots nonconforming if primary residences are not built. Members discussed possible approaches, including how to treat the foundations and whether conditions or variances might be appropriate. The matter will return as a case at the November 4 meeting, with the developer expected to attend. No contracts, purchases, bids, or spending decisions were discussed.
