The Town of Smyrna Town Council met on August 11, 2026. A Thomas & Hutton presentation updated water and wastewater capacity projections using data through July 2026. The wastewater plant’s current permitted capacity is 9 MGD, and projections place the 80% planning threshold around 2030–2032; the water plant’s 80% threshold is projected around 2045. Council discussed beginning wastewater expansion planning before reaching that threshold, given the estimated 5–8 years for planning and delivery and a possible 36–48 months for draft permit limits. Staff said the five-year capital improvement plan includes funding to begin the process. Sewer rehabilitation phases were completed, and the presentation also covered planned sewer-system analysis and a Harts Branch sewer relocation project.
The consent agenda included agreements for fire-apparatus exhaust filters from Ward Diesel, a Robot Zoo exhibit from Exhibition Group Inc., stormwater work, pest control from Wayne’s Pest Control, and reimbursement for an emergency sewer repair by Gutierrez Plumbing. Council separately discussed and approved a Premier Fence agreement to replace a sidewalk handrail on Rock Springs Road, funded within the $150,000 sidewalk rehabilitation budget. It also approved Rollins Excavating Company’s annual stormwater and concrete work agreement; the town said spending would be limited to the available budget, with a stated not-to-exceed amount of about $200,000, and cited bid pricing, references, and prior work in selecting the firm. Council discussed an hourly legal-services agreement with E. Evan Cope PLLC for easement acquisitions for the Stewart Creek gravity sewer project; no fee cap was identified, while officials described ongoing project updates and council involvement before taking cases to trial. An emergency wastewater-plant purchase from IFS for a reuse pump and lower-shaft repair was announced at $71,764. The council also approved an ordinance protecting information about the town’s cybersecurity vendors.
