The Watertown Unified School District Board of Education’s July 2026 meeting included several procurement and fiscal actions. The board approved a three-year waste and recycling services contract with GFL for the 2026–27 through 2028–29 school years; the fiscal committee reported that three vendors bid and GFL was the most cost-effective. It also approved the purchase of two 2026 10-passenger vans from a local Watertown Ford dealer for $64,739.70 each, with one van to be purchased using a grant and the other with budgeted funds. Additional approvals included 2026–27 renewals for USI Insurance Services, a benefits broker, and Frontline Education; 2026–27 facility-use fees; and an updated pool agreement with the City of Watertown. The board also approved a $100,000 transfer from the general fund to the capital improvement fund for projects on the board-approved long-range capital plan. The pool agreement passed with one abstention; the other listed procurement and fiscal motions passed.

The fiscal committee reported estimated state aid would decrease 3.1% in 2026–27 and that projections indicate reductions of roughly $2 million per year may be needed to maintain the current fund balance. The board discussed future resource planning in connection with the anticipated closure of two elementary schools, and administration described ongoing competitive bidding and vendor review for larger facility purchases. Other discussions included strategic-plan academic outcomes, screen use in classrooms, and staffing. No dollar amounts were stated for the GFL, USI, Frontline, or pool agreements.
