The WUSD Board of Education’s Educational Services Committee met on August 11, 2026, to review assessment plans, student feedback, multilingual learner services, high school scheduling, school transitions, and other instructional topics. No contracts were awarded and no procurement votes were taken. The district removed its optional eighth-grade preACT 8/9 assessment from the 2026–27 calendar after receiving incomplete data and determining that the test’s cost and staff time were not justified by its value. The committee also discussed a possible purchase of pocket Constitutions for students, estimated at about $0.75 per copy, but no quantity, budget, or approval was established.
For the District of the Future work, board members clarified that the school transitions should not entail major building renovations or moving an entire school, citing limited space and fiscal constraints; the committee will continue exploring how science/STEM programming can be made available across elementary schools. The committee also discussed whether to admit new international students through Pathways Academy under the district’s existing relationship, with one student potentially seeking to start in September. Members requested review of the contract and fiscal implications by the incoming superintendent and referred the matter for full-board discussion; no decision was made. Special education vacancies and a grant-funded support position were noted, without a related spending or hiring action in this meeting.
