**Body:** WUSD Board of Education
**Date:** October 21, 2026
**Jurisdiction:** SLED

**Tags:** Education, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence

The WUSD Board of Education Curriculum Committee met on October 22, 2026, to review physical education, health and science course guides; curriculum performance data; potential language offerings; and a proposed Riverside Middle School intervention schedule. The committee agreed to advance the reviewed course guides to the full board. It discussed elementary Spanish or expanded Greek and Latin roots, middle-school language options, and adding American Sign Language at the high school, but made no final adoption decision; staff will explore feasibility, student interest, staffing, scheduling, and costs. Members noted tight budgets and declining enrollment as constraints. The committee also agreed to include Wit & Wisdom in the upcoming literature review and curriculum audit.

Staff presented a proposed WIN-time pilot at Riverside Middle School using AI-assisted, standards-aligned lessons alongside paper-and-pencil work. Members supported bringing a pilot recommendation to the full board, with rigorous documentation and evaluation of student outcomes and staff impact. Staff described the district’s internal AI agent, SID, as a way to develop or supplement curriculum and potentially reduce reliance on purchased materials; no specific savings were quantified. No contract awards, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified. Other follow-up items include reviewing third-grade ELA and math data, exploring language-program options, and providing a curriculum-audit update.
