At the October 19, 2026 Putnam County Commission meeting, commissioners approved the Putnam County landfill expansion by a 24–0 roll-call vote. Discussion described the facility as accepting construction and demolition waste and other permitted materials, not ordinary household garbage; supporters said the additional cell could extend the landfill’s useful life by 20–30 years and reduce future transportation costs. Commissioners also discussed environmental monitoring and prior state notices of noncompliance, which county representatives said had been addressed. No project cost or construction contract award was stated.

The commission also approved surplus equipment to be traded in as part of replacing equipment for the Sheriff’s Office, and approved selling two EMS vehicles—the transcript identifies a 2023 Ford F-350 Transit van and a 2018 Ford F-450—through an online public auction. Budget amendments to the General Purpose School Fund were approved. Public comment raised concerns about a potential hotel development involving county land and the landfill’s management; county officials said no hotel contract or land transfer had occurred, and no action on the hotel proposal was taken at this meeting.
