The Waunakee School District Board of Education Facility Committee met August 6, 2026, to review facility finances, maintenance needs, and school safety and athletic-field projects. Staff reported approximately $5.2–$5.3 million in construction savings and said the district may use roughly $1.3–$1.5 million to bring the fall property-tax levy closer to inflation, subject to further Budget and Facility Committee discussion in October. The committee also reviewed a capital-maintenance budget of about $1 million. A motion was made to increase it to $1.25 million to provide flexibility for upcoming costs, including snow removal, but the transcript does not capture a second or vote. Staff flagged the pool UV system for replacement due to age and corrosive conditions; repair was estimated at $4,800. The committee also discussed the pool boiler, snow-plowing options, and the upcoming expiration of the North American Mechanical contract, with further planning scheduled for October.

The committee discussed rebuilding the middle-school track, with a stated project amount of about $280,000, but did not make a final project decision. Members voted to add an outside review of the track to the Rettler work and revisit the matter at a future meeting; staff said contractor selection would ultimately use a bidding process, with planning aimed at work in 2027. The committee reviewed Rettler’s $17,500 proposal for an independent athletic-field assessment and prioritization plan, within the $4.4 million referendum allocation. The requested scope includes a project-priority matrix, consideration of prior planning work, and staff review of the draft; staff reported that Rettler’s fee would not change and that the proposal had been signed. Members asked that elementary-school practice fields also be included. For middle-school classroom safety, staff presented smart-glass and motorized-shade options, but members requested references, building-wide documentation of rooms needing concealment, and further information before deciding; the issue will return in October.
