The Waunakee School District Board of Education held its monthly meeting on August 10, 2026. The board reviewed an updated referendum financial plan: the proposed capital amount was revised from $105 million to $97.5 million, with an estimated tax impact of 42 cents. The board approved the recurring operational referendum resolution and unanimously authorized two referendum questions for the November 3 ballot. Members also voted to create a policy defining how operational referendum funds would be used if state funding becomes available; the policy will go through the policy committee. The board discussed using approximately $5 million in projected middle-school project savings, including $1.5 million in previously tracked contingency, potentially to reduce the tax levy or support district maintenance and renovation needs. No allocation decision was made at this meeting.

Facilities discussion included security-camera upgrades at the high school’s South Campus and Warrior Stadium press box, which the facility committee recommended proceeding with. The board also reviewed middle-school track options for a future decision: a full rebuild was estimated at about $280,000, with a further $150,000 for a rubberized surface; a separate safety-shade proposal was estimated at $181,252 including electrical work. Both the track and shades were discussion items scheduled to return to the facility committee in September, not approvals at this meeting. The board approved a set of policy updates that included purchasing-approval procedures, addressing an area previously not specified in district policy. It also reappointed John Anderson of Husch Blackwell as expulsion officer.
