The Waunakee Community School District Board of Education’s annual meeting was held August 24, 2026. The board approved a school tax levy of $51,473,463 to operate and maintain the district and finance the recommended 2026–27 budget. The budget discussion cited an estimated tax rate of $8.80 and a projected 6% increase in equalized property value; the final budget and levy are scheduled for consideration at a special board meeting on October 26. The board also considered a resolution authorizing purchases, upgrades, and maintenance of transportation vehicles, as well as contracts for student transportation services; the transcript records a motion and second but does not clearly capture the vote. Other annual resolutions addressed student fees, board compensation, school lunches, and access to legal counsel.

Administrators reviewed a proposed November 2026 referendum that includes a four-year recurring operational funding question and a $97.5 million facilities project, focused primarily on modernizing or replacing portions of the high school, with additional work at the south campus and outdoor athletic fields. The described high school work includes about 150,000 square feet of new construction. The board had approved the referendum questions earlier in August, but no vendor selections or construction contract awards were reported. Administrators also said the board directed them to draft a policy to reduce annual operational referendum amounts if state funding becomes sufficient to match budgetary expenditures.
