The Washington County, Tennessee Board of Education’s September meeting was held September 15, 2026. The board approved a $50,968 HVAC purchase for the David Crockett High School annex (Purchase Order 8949, Train Technologies), authorized release of bids for the annex roof replacement, and approved purchasing school buses for FY2027 through the county educational capital plan. It also approved applying for a grant to purchase a smaller electric school bus, expected to cost less than a conventional mini bus. The board approved Purchase Order 9214 for Benchmark Education’s Onyx system, $34,916, funded by a Tennessee tutoring grant, and approved releasing an RFP for a community childcare provider in collaboration with the Project Sprout grant and local partners.

The board also approved an updated master agreement with East Tennessee State University for the University School partnership, subject to legal review and finalization. It approved the design and production of school displays related to state law, despite one member’s opposition and concerns raised about potential legal and financial impacts. Other business included board officer elections, student achievement recognition, and approval of an adjustment to the employee leave agreement to align its wording with 2026 state law while maintaining the existing total annual leave days. No contract award or vendor selection for the childcare RFP or roof work was reported.
