The City of Aurora Finance Committee held a special meeting on October 22, 2026, to review proposed 2027 departmental budgets. The Law Department requested a larger allowance for outside legal counsel to address workload and contract-review delays; discussion referenced increasing the current $250,000 budget to $400,000, though no budget approval was taken. Members also discussed legal staffing, a rise in legal requests, liability reserves, and the department’s work on contract templates and grant procedures. No spending motions or contract awards were approved.
Community Services presented proposed organizational changes, including dissolving the Community Engagement division and redistributing its work across departments; aldermen requested more consultation and written details, and the presentation will continue at a later meeting. The department reported a $270,000 Bloomberg Philanthropies Love Your Block grant for a two-year fellow and neighborhood microgrants. Funding for the Financial Empowerment Center remains uncertain, while a feasibility study for future animal care and control facility needs is planned for 2028 or later. Communications and Marketing budget presentations were rescheduled for November 12. The committee voted to authorize remote participation for an alderman and later adjourned; it did not vote on the proposed departmental budgets.
