The Beverly School Committee’s Curriculum, Instruction & Student Life subcommittee and Committee of the Whole met on October 28, 2026. The Committee of the Whole approved, 8–0, an eighth-grade spring 2027 educational trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico, arranged through Explorica. The stated trip cost was $2,568 per participant; the proposed group is approximately 42 students and seven chaperones. The trip includes transportation, lodging, meals, guided activities, and travel protection options, with families responsible for payments and fundraising. The subcommittee also voted to advance policies on school-sanctioned international travel (unanimously) and powered micromobility devices (7–0, with one abstention); these were slated for further Committee of the Whole review, not final adoption.

The Committee discussed school facilities and transportation spending but made no related contract award. District officials said roof-replacement funding proposals would be brought to the school committee and City Council, and noted ongoing needs involving athletic turf and the field-house floor. LED emergency-light upgrades at three schools and ventilation-system VFD replacements at seven schools were reported complete. The district is seeking a vendor to letter 13 buses with messaging about its electric-bus program; quotes are pending, with an expected cost of a few hundred dollars per vehicle, potentially paid from the transportation revolving account. Officials also reported that grants and direct-pay tax credits covered eight electric buses and charging infrastructure without local city funds, avoiding an estimated $1 million in bus purchase costs.
