At the October 20, 2026 regular meeting of the Monroe County, Michigan Board of Commissioners, the board approved the FY2027 Community Corrections grant award of $295,500, with a reported local match of $141,638, divided between the 2026 and 2027 budgets. It also approved applying for and accepting a Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs medical marijuana oversight grant of $60,699, with no local match. The board authorized continued funding for the Sheriff’s School Resource Officer supervisor position while school-district contracts are put in place. The Sheriff’s office described a vehicle purchase funded by an advance, with the cost to be included in the 2027 budget; the transcript does not preserve the vehicle purchase amount. Officials noted that existing equipment would fit the vehicles, avoiding about $100,000 in repurchase costs, and that retired vehicles are sold through GovDeals.
The board voted to table the museum expansion and renovation decision until after the budget session and revisit it the following year; no contractor was selected or award made. The project’s stated bid was $11,455,000, with $6.9 million already committed and a proposed financing plan involving museum funds and a further $1.9 million advance from the Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund. The board also approved accounts payable claims totaling $1,824,412.62, including payments to Access Michigan for HVAC repairs, Pace Systems for a sheriff and dispatch scheduling-software license, Hunter Lawn Service and Snow Removal, and VitalCore Health Strategies for detention-facility health services. Two non-claims check registers totaling $713,189.41 and $1,598,465.53 were approved.
