The North Haven Board of Finance’s regular meeting on October 21, 2026, reviewed monthly revenue and expense reports and discussed several capital and purchasing matters. The fire chief said approximately seven aging or damaged hydrants need full replacement because parts are unavailable; members estimated the cost at roughly $12,000 per hydrant. The board also discussed a $31,000 fire-apparatus-related expense previously approved for payment from contingency, which staff said would be recorded as a reclassification. During public comment, the fire chief described the department’s past apparatus orders and delays, and disputed how the cancellation of an engine purchase was handled; no new apparatus purchase or award was approved at this meeting.
The board reviewed an energy-savings performance initiative covering town and school facilities. A request for proposals is underway, and the Connecticut Energy Alliance’s study is being conducted at no cost to the town; any resulting project, financing, and approvals remain for future consideration. The board also discussed developing a formal fund-balance policy, with a draft expected at a future meeting. Members approved the monthly financial reports and annual meeting schedules; no procurement contract award or new spending appropriation was approved.
