The Kane County Legislative Committee met on October 21, 2026, for legislative updates and committee business. Federal representatives reported that four Kane County earmarks totaling slightly more than $4 million were included in pending appropriations bills, contingent on passage. The projects were described as including Big Timber Intersection improvements, a Kane County Department of Transportation operations facility, a PACE bus, Randall Road signal-priority improvements, and expansion of the coroner’s forensic lab. A recycling-center upgrade was raised as a potential future earmark; applications for the next cycle are not yet open, and staff advised submitting the proposal through the new legislative intake form. Members also discussed the county board’s $19,000 conference-travel allocation, which some said may be inadequate, and requested further work on the travel policy and forms. No contract awards or RFP decisions were identified.
The committee approved a legislative agenda for advancement to the Executive Committee and full County Board, amended to add a general priority to protect land, water, and air for future generations. Legislative updates covered anticipated Illinois data-center legislation on utility-rate protections, water efficiency, energy generation, noise, and transparency; federal data-center ratepayer protections; and other state and federal issues. The committee also advanced a child-abuse-notice resolution, and discussed submitting a comment opposing proposed census changes, with one member expressing objection. The meeting approved its prior minutes and adjourned.
