The City of Lathrup Village Planning Commission met on October 20, 2026. The commission reviewed a special land use request for packaged alcohol sales at 28939 Southfield Road. Following discussion of the application’s evidence of need, nearby retailers, and potential neighborhood impacts, it voted to recommend denial under zoning criteria 6.2.10(H) and (E). The commission also recommended allowing the business to open at 6 a.m. while retaining an 11 p.m. closing time; the final decision on the requests rests with City Council, which also serves as the Zoning Board of Appeals. No contract award or purchasing decision was made.

The commission began review of the first draft of the city’s master plan update, including proposed future land-use designations and how parks and green spaces should be shown. Members deferred detailed housing discussion to a later meeting. In a related property-development matter, staff reported that the Downtown Development Authority had received one response to an RFP for a parcel and authorized staff to negotiate a sale price with the respondent; the concept was described as needing refinement, and no sale or award was approved at this meeting. The meeting also noted an upcoming posting to fill a Planning Commission vacancy.
