🚚 Transportation 🚨 Public Safety Emergency Response Physical Infrastructure

The October 20, 2026 City Council meeting of the City of San Luis Obispo included discussion of the city’s transit contractor, storm readiness, and continuation of the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID). Council and staff discussed service problems following the July transition to MV Transportation, including driver shortages, missed trips, dispatch responsiveness, schedule revisions, and possible Uber rides for missed service. MV representatives described corrective efforts; no new transit contract award or procurement vote occurred. Staff said they expect to bring a purchase of storm-preparation safety gear and supplies to Council in November, but no cost was provided. Council also discussed a proposed CWA contract intended to bolster local labor on city projects, without taking action on it during this meeting.

Council adopted a resolution continuing the citywide TBID, with a 5–0 vote. The district is funded by a 2% assessment on lodging businesses’ gross receipts, and its funding is directed to tourism marketing benefiting those businesses. The meeting also included an update on public art programs, including an RFP for poetry installations, and storm-preparedness infrastructure work; no related contract awards or spending amounts were reported. Council discussed whether to schedule future consideration of the city’s role in the county’s proposed recreational use of a drinking-water reservoir, but no substantive policy decision was made.
