The Wayne County Commission Committee on Public Safety, Judiciary, and Homeland Security met on October 21, 2026. The committee considered a comparable-source professional services contract with 984 LLC for strategic communications and media services for the Sheriff’s Office, including a one-year renewal option. A motion was made to approve it as amended, with minor scope changes discussed; the transcript does not capture the vote result. The committee deferred for the day a no-cost facility-use agreement with Metro Tech Automotive Group, which would provide workspace for Sheriff’s Office employees while county vehicles are serviced. Commissioners raised legal and policy concerns about displaying county logos at a private business and requested clarification on permitted logo use. A retroactive amendment to the Sheriff’s Office agreement with the Wayne County Airport Authority for use of the firearms range was approved; it adds the agreement term without changing the dollar amount.
The committee approved three prosecutor’s-office grant agreements: a three-month Michigan Department of Health and Human Services crime-victim supplemental funding grant not to exceed $73,897, with no county match; a one-year MDHHS grant not to exceed $168,491, also with no county match, to fund two sexual-assault victim advocates; and a three-year subrecipient agreement with the Detroit Crime Commission supporting the sexual-assault-kit task force through the Enough Said partnership, with the amount not stated in the transcript. The committee also received Sheriff’s Office program reports on the prison rape elimination program, narcotics unit, marine patrol, and GPS tether monitoring; no additional procurement actions were identified in those reports.
