The Harrison County Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting on October 20, 2026. The superintendent reported on several facilities projects: RCB requested a short, no-cost schedule extension because of inclement weather; the Bridgeport Middle School secure-entrance project is awaiting long-lead storefront materials; bids are being pursued for roof repairs at the Steam Center and the maintenance building in Gore; and a paving bid was deferred until spring. Repairs to the front classroom floors at Bridgeport High School may be scheduled for early summer 2027. No contract awards or project dollar amounts were reported. The board also discussed a year-over-year cash-basis operating-fund shortfall of about $3 million through September.

A presentation reviewed litigation challenging West Virginia’s state aid funding formula and proposed State Board of Education legislation addressing enrollment, special education weighting, and charter-school funding. The formula remains unchanged for now; no related board action was taken. The board approved consent items that included agreements with West Virginia State University Research Development Corporation and the National Youth Advocate Program. Other discussion covered projected enrollment declines and staffing, academic achievement, and transportation operations.
