The City of Annapolis Public Safety Committee met on October 21, 2026. It gave a favorable recommendation to O26-26, which would rename the city’s special residential parking districts from numbers to letters. The committee postponed O28-26, concerning Department of Transportation fine waivers, so the city attorney and staff can draft amendments narrowing its scope to parking citations and addressing eligibility and authority issues. The committee approved its agenda and September 30 minutes; no procurement decisions were made on those items.
The Office of Emergency Management, fire chief, and police chief presented 10 projects totaling approximately $899,000 through the federal FY25 Urban Area Security Initiative grant, with no additional cost to the city. Major planned purchases and services include an emergency operations plan update (estimated at $98,225, with a tabletop exercise estimated at $20,000), a $65,000 logistics pickup truck, $235,000 for a bomb-squad robot, and $100,000 for vehicle barriers, initially eight units. Other funds support command-vehicle, hazmat, technical-rescue, bomb-squad, K-9, and law-enforcement equipment. Procurement work, including quotes, is underway; the grant performance period runs through June 2028. Officials also reported that a previously approved fireboat is scheduled for delivery October 28, and described upcoming budget items involving three cardiac monitors, up to 15 AEDs, and a port-security-grant-funded underwater robot. Those items were reported as upcoming actions, not committee awards or approvals.
