At the October 21, 2026 Schuylkill County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners unanimously approved the LERTA amendment for a speculative, approximately 1-million-square-foot logistics facility at Highridge Business Park in Cass Township. The revised abatement was described as 75/25 for the first five years and 50/50 for the remaining five years; a representative said the change was sought to keep the project competitive and allow construction to proceed this year. The commissioners also confirmed that the LERTA would not apply if the property became a data center. Residents questioned the urgency and availability of supporting documentation before the vote.
Other spending and procurement items included a request to submit a $1,140,031 CDBG application and approval of a Big Rock Paving LLC CDBG project in Girardville; a negative $8,489.46 change order for Ronnie Sealth Paving Inc., reducing its street-project contract to $131,312.54; and a PennDOT multimodal grant application for the Keystone Boulevard roadway rehabilitation and safety project, estimated at $1,126,264, with a $788,385 grant request and a $337,879 SECO match. The agenda also included a two-year Green Communications time-synchronization maintenance agreement at $4,200 per year, a three-year county transportation authority contract capped at $238,311.80, and prisoner-housing services at $80 per inmate per day. A $27,892 supplemental appropriation was approved. Public comments also called for greater access to the county’s 2027 budget process; commissioners said the projected shortfall was about $300,000 and that the county was in good shape.
