At Milton’s Special Town Meeting, Night One, in October 2026 (the title says October 29, while the metadata lists October 20), members considered several spending and capital items. Article 1 passed unanimously, placing $363,469 in the reserve fund after the state provided more revenue than expected. Article 2 passed with 217 yes votes and one abstention, transferring about $350,000 in surplus bond proceeds from completed projects toward a replacement fire engine. Article 3, which proposed $2.2 million in water-main borrowing, was referred back to the Select Board after town staff identified an error in the water enterprise fund’s debt schedule. Article 4 passed, 218–1 with two abstentions, approving Community Preservation Act funding for the Tucker School playground renovation. The approximately $1.45 million project has raised $540,000 for construction, including $250,000 in state funding; a $450,000 federal request remained under review. Approval is intended to allow bidding and equipment orders this winter, with construction planned for summer 2027.

Article 6 concerned acquiring the former Laboure College property at 303 Adam Street for $11.75 million. Members debated its potential use for schools or other municipal purposes, projected costs and carrying costs, school enrollment assumptions, and alternatives to development. The town meeting approved the acquisition authorization and borrowing measure, subject to a townwide Proposition 2½ debt-exclusion vote scheduled for December 15; the transcript does not capture the vote count. Members also referred Article 7 back to the Select Board, reduced the fiscal 2027 PEG access appropriation from $500,000 to $450,000 under Article 8, and referred Article 9 back for further study. No vendor award was made at this meeting.
