The Flagstaff Parks and Recreation Commission met on October 19, 2026. Commissioners discussed a citywide Parks, Recreation, Open Space, and Events (PROS) master plan intended to guide priorities, projects, and funding over the next decade. The consultant is assessing existing facilities and service levels and will develop a capital improvement plan and budget. Commissioners emphasized adequate staffing and ongoing maintenance, equitable access across neighborhoods, and sustainable funding for new facilities. Ideas raised included improved pedestrian and bicycle connections, recreation facilities, event spaces, and better-maintained parks. Community input will continue through the end of the year, with an in-person workshop scheduled for October 22 and a statistically valid household survey planned afterward.

The commission also discussed the Heritage Square restroom project: its total budget was identified as $250,000 for design and construction, with project-management costs reducing the amount available for construction. Construction costs remain uncertain; staff said temporary public restrooms would be needed during an estimated four-to-six-month construction period. No contract award, vendor selection, procurement approval, or spending vote was identified. Commissioners requested a future overview of capital projects, including Ponderosa Park reconstruction and the Cheshire Park track. The commission approved the prior meeting’s minutes; no other spending-related action was taken.
