The Hudson City Council’s September 8, 2026 meeting included a preliminary presentation on the 2027 budget. Staff said the proposed operating levy would exceed the levy limit by roughly $438,000 if the November referendum fails; the presentation also outlined a referendum-passage scenario, including added fire staffing and about $300,000 for related capital needs. Potential budget responses discussed included reassignment of a police officer as a school resource officer, changes to employee compensation or health-plan costs, and reassessing the city’s ride-share program. These were discussion items, not adopted budget decisions. Staff will return with updated figures after health-insurance rates are available and seek authorization to publish alternative budgets in October.

The council approved service contracts for the new police department; the transcript gives no vendor or contract amount. It also approved the consent agenda, including claims totaling approximately $3,790,840.16. A proposed change to downtown parking restrictions was postponed to the first October meeting so the council could review how the parking spaces relate to the development’s TIF agreement. Council members also requested ride-share usage data and a discussion with the provider; no change to that service was approved.
