The Hudson Public Safety Committee meeting on August 6, 2026, focused on traffic and pedestrian safety, parking, and emergency-response facilities. Following a fatal crash at Hanley Road and Carmichael Road, members asked engineers to prepare options for safety improvements—including signal phasing, lane channelization, crosswalk and striping upgrades, and pedestrian refuge islands—with cost estimates and timelines and input from WisDOT on possible HISP program eligibility. The committee also discussed the Carmichael Road–Grand View Drive walking path, whose full rehabilitation was estimated at about $200,000; phased work could potentially draw on approximately $50,000 per year in trail-maintenance CIP funding. Members voted to refer the path to Public Works for assessment and progress updates. A motion to prohibit parking on one side of Trillium Way at all times passed and is to be forwarded to council, with signage to be addressed through Public Works.
The fire chief raised the need for a safer, more practical docking location for the city’s emergency-response boat. A marina slip could cost upwards of $200,000, so members discussed investigating other locations, permitting, power needs, and potential grant funding, including port-security grants; no purchase or funding decision was made. The police department’s new building was nearing occupancy, with workstations, computers, and monitors still to be completed, but no procurement approval was reported. No contract awards or vendor selections were identified.
